'7 Ways to Win a Monday...'

www.mtv.tumblr.com
Monday's.

As a general, the most hated day of the week. Like ever.

I know this morning I woke up in a mood, took forever to get ready, then stressed about taking so long to get ready (screw you left eyeliner), then was late to work, have been 'Hangry' all day and now have topped my day off and stuffed some chocolate biscuits, ruining my diet…again.
I asked myself why? I gave many answers,

"Its because it is a Monday",
"Monday's ruin everything",
"I'm in a bad mood because its Monday",
"MONDAY'S SUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKK".

But I found myself asking another question, why do Monday's suck? Why does my Monday suck so bad that I've gorged on junk|? Why did I wake up feeling like I wanted to rip my own head off?

Its because I don't win. I don't win on Monday's.

And it's about time this loosing stopped.

So this evening I have thought of, (and researched, like the nerd that I am) some ideas that I can try to turn - Monday :-( into Monday :-).

1. Plan for the Monday:
I am massively guilty of leaving everything until the last minute. After 21 years of living my life you would have thought I would have learnt by now but…I haven't. Sorry Ma.

My bag is never packed, I stand trundling through my wardrobe looking for clothes (which of course at 8am on a Monday morning I suddenly have 'nothing to wear'), I'm searching for my work lanyard which I shoved down somewhere on Friday afternoon and this is happening while I'm trying to find a  pair of clean socks. Its not a pretty sight, real talk.

So what would happen if I got everything ready on Sunday? Or even on the Friday when I get home from work?

I would be one mega, awesome, independent, organised babe in total control of her life, thats what would flaming happen. And I'd feel a teeny, tiny bit less stressed on the Monday morning I'm sure! YAY FOR RIRI!

Rihanna might have had 'Work, work, work, work, work' but this Rianna's new theme tune is 'Plan, plan, plan, plan, plan'…I've got a good feeling about this one.

2. Think Positively:
Positive vibes lead to a positive life.

Wow. I know that is such a meggggggaaaaaaaaaaa cringe and I almost can't believe those words just came out of my mouth. Vom.

But its true, and as much as is a cliche, if we think positively 9 times out of 10 the end result will be a more positive one than had we have been a 'Negative Nelly', (or for the male readers out there a 'Negative Neville'…ooh wait a 'Negative Nigel', 'Negative Nathaniel'?!…I should stop now).
So on those Monday mornings…sorry Sunday Evenings because we are pro planners now, find one quote that inspires you to have a good Monday. Saying it, even just in our heads, can help get through even the most dreary Monday's known to man. I wish at the start of today I'd had a little mantra to help me get through it!

Maybe mine would have been this…

3. Make Someone Else's Day:
I remember in a Friend's episode once there was an argument between Joey and Phoebe (favs) where Joey says 'There is no such thing as a selfless deed"…and I think he's right. But why does this have to be a bad thing? I think if every Monday we did something for someone else not only would we be making their monday a bit better, we'd be making ourselves feel better as well and we need this self love. Period.

It could be as simple as texting a friend, telling them to have a good week, or bringing in some biscuits for work colleagues to share at Lunch! Its the little things that make the big impacts in this world and if it makes us feel good in the process…I'm game.

4. Plan for the Weekend:
Getting to Friday is many people's inspo for a Monday morning anyway. It gives us something to look forward to and its fun when we actually get to it! So it goes back to that old chestnut of planning…get together with your friends for Lunch on a Saturday afternoon , go and see a movie with your boyfriend or girlfriend after work on a Friday, plan to spend Sunday with your family!
Win win for everyone and it will give you something to get through the week…not just a Monday!

5. But…Don't Live for the Weekend:
Now I know this is a slight contradiction…ok, a massive, in your face, contradiction actually. I literally couldn't have put them closer together. Hear me out.

As much as its fun to go out at the weekend, and it really is because cocktails can become involved(yay), whose to say that you can't plan something to look forward to during the week as well.
Tuesday movie night is closer than a Friday one after all! I'm seeing my gorge best friend, Tia, for a 'Nandos, Natter and Movie Night' tomorrow and having this planned really helped me get through today!

6. Get the Tunes Flowing:
I can't get ready unless I have my music playing. I've tried and my limbs freak out and forget how to function…maybe. But I do really love getting ready to music. I sit in bed (#LAZY), put my makeup out, bring the mirror over and murder Whitney Houston's Greatest Hits album…on the daily people.
I find that having music in the background makes everything a little bit more fun! Whether you're getting ready on your own and pretending you're at Wembley stadium…just me? Or with your friends, getting ready for a night out having lip sync battles and adding at least 20 minutes time to the cab waiting downstairs! So why not add this fun to a Monday morning?! Get those lungs going people! Here are my top 10 XLT (Extra Large Tunes innit) to add to a morning playlist-

9-5 : Dolly Parton
Don't Stop Me Now : Queen
Roar : Katy Perry
Harder Better Faster Stronger : Daft Punk
Get Up, Stand Up : Bob Marley
Don't Stop Believing : Journey
Run The World (Girls) : Beyonce
Ain't No Mountain High Enough : Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
Heroes : David Bowie
Lose Yourself : Eminem
7: Find the Cause:
Now I hate to finish on something thats quite serious, but its happening.
Sometimes we don't win a Monday, sometimes we don't win Monday's and sometimes we don't win at all. And we need to sit down with ourselves and think about why this is happening before it gets to a place that really sucks.

Being honest with ourselves is soooooo important, especially to our mental state. You can have all the techniques, quotes and cookies in the world to help us but if we keep masking the real reason why we don't like a Monday we're going to have a problem. It could be lack of sleep over a weekend which is bringing you down, it could be that you are unhappy in your job and dread the start of a new working week or it could be that the thought of going to school or college makes it hard to get out of bed, whatever that reason is…its ok.

You are allowed to be unhappy.
You are allowed to feel tired.
You are allowed to feel like you would rather eat 263 tubs of Ben & Jerry's rather than participate in that particular day.

You are allowed to feel whatever the heck you want to feel. Just promise me that you won't keep whatever it is thats bugging you inside for too long before you try and resolve it. Tell someone. Tell yourself. Tell your goldfish (They won't remember anyway…*hold your lols*)
A problem shared might just be a problem halved.

So my final motivational quote is this…
"If Leonardo DiCaprio can get through 22 Oscars, you can get through today". Enough said.

Until next time,
.
